Our inaugural survey exploring your thoughts on the impending EYFS Framework revealed plenty
of interesting feedback – too much in fact to include in Streams! So here are a few more results
from those 500 surveyed back in February...
EYFS: Your Thoughts
- Nursery professionals have broadly welcomed the EYFS
- 70% believe the initiative will result in a general raising of standards in settings
- 6% are concerned it would not add value to profession
"I am happy about EYFS because it rolls all existing documents into one cohesive document, so it should be
easier to work with."
Brian Potter, Marketing and Sales Director at The Consortium, comments: "The main message coming across
from people on the 'front line' seems to be that the general principle of EYFS is a good one and that would
bring substantial benefits.
But there seems to be a feeling that too much weight is being attached to strict criteria at the expense
of experience"
EYP: Yes or No?
- 50% think the creation of Early Years Professionals was unfair…experience is not given sufficient value
- One third say they are not interested in the EYP status or are not currently considering it
Here's what a couple of respondents had to say...
"EYFS will be very useful but I have my doubts about EYPs – being a graduate doesn’t make you a leader."
"It is unfair that a person holding a degree might be fast tracked, while years of childcare experience
are overlooked."
Implementation Issues
We also delved into your thoughts on the requirements and implementation process. Let’s recap:
- 8% would need to increase staff-child ratio to meet the new requirements
- 14% would like to increase staff numbers but did not have sufficient funds
- 29% have invested in additional equipment to meet the new physical development goals
- Over 50% felt their existing resources were adequate
