Claroread Learning Support Software

The Consortium is pleased to announce the launch of their dedicated Special Education Needs (SEN) technology website. Working with our special needs partner, MicrolinkPC, (the country’s largest supplier of assistive technology) we are now able to offer our customers an unrivalled range of the very best learning support hardware and software.

When preparing the website we have focused mainly on the needs of students with additional educational needs in mainstream schools. Whether this additional need is caused by dyslexia; visual impairment; a physical disability; or even because the student is studying in their non native language, technology can help remove the barriers to learning that they face in every lesson. We are aware that teachers are working hard to implement the Every Child Matters agenda and we feel confident that technology has a big part to play in building life long learning skills. We are also aware of how busy teachers are, so we have only selected technologies that are intuitive to use and require little or no training.

Assistive technologies can sit within or alongside a learning platform and have the capacity to make a huge impact on the way young people learn. Research out of the University of Southampton suggests that 90% of students using assistive technologies believed that their final grades were higher than they otherwise would have been.

To celebrate the launch we will be offering you free samples of software over the coming months. The first is ClaroRead. This is a clever piece of text – speech technology which takes any piece of computerised text and literally reads it back to the user – in a high quality non-robotic voice. It works on word processed documents, web pages and even with scanned documents and PDFs. It has a homophone pictionary and converts text files to audio files which can be transferred to mobile phones and MP3 players. It makes all documents fully accessible to all learners and provides students with a very powerful proof reading tool.
