The Consortium is now part of Smiths News plc

The Consortium is pleased to announce that it has been acquired by Smiths News plc. The change of ownership will significantly strengthen the company and enhance the opportunities for future development.
The acquisition of The Consortium further diversifies the Smiths News Group, which since 2006, has expanded from its base of newspapers and magazines wholesaling into book wholesaling including library supply, media and marketing services and now the education and care sectors. This latest acquisition is in line with the company's strategy of diversifying into specialist distribution markets.
The management team at The Consortium remains unchanged and will continue to be led by Chief Executive, Melanie Teal, who commented: "We're delighted that Smiths News plc has recognised that we are a well run business and their support will enable us to offer even better service and a wider range of products."
Mark Cashmore, Group Chief Executive, commented: "I'm delighted that we've managed to secure the acquisition of such a quality business. Supplying the education and care markets will complement our core skills whilst diversifying the Group in a new specialist distribution sector."
