Moustache-growing staff at The Consortium raise £4,000 for Movember and men's health charities!
December, 2010
Staff at The Consortium have raised a fantastic £4,000 to support men's health charities by growing moustaches for a month.
24 staff at The Consortium took part in the charity event, Movember, which involves growing a moustache for the whole of November (hence the name Movember) to raise funds for charities that focus on men’s health. The team, nicknamed the ‘Mo Bros’, included volunteers from all areas of the business, including staff from customer services, the warehouse and sales and marketing. Even the 4 directors took part and grew moustaches to support this worthy cause.
One of the Mo Bros, explained that at times it was tough to keep going until the end of the month: "I can't say that I miss my moustache – and I think my family are even happier that it's been shaved off! But we received fantastic support from everyone at The Consortium and we are really pleased that we have played our part in raising awareness of men's health issues."
Chief Executive, Melanie Teal praised staff for their charity work: "This is an outstanding achievement and I'm very proud of the staff who took on this commitment and generated so much sponsorship for Movember."
Movember is a growing, international event that was inspired by women’s success in fundraising for breast cancer. Last November, over quarter of a million men took part and raised £26m worldwide. In the UK, the funds raised by Movember go to The Prostate Cancer Charity, the UK’s leading charity for the most common cancer affecting men in the UK.
Every year in the UK 36,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer and one man dies every hour from it. The Prostate Cancer Charity is striving for a world where lives are no longer limited by prostate cancer.
